I hate that right now it's late enough at night to technically be September.
But I did do the last day of August proud.
I bought a bunch of plants first thing this morning for the indoors and outdoors, dug some holes and stuck them in the ground.
The outside of my house is finally shaping up,
even though I should be spending my energy on rehabbing the downstairs bathroom before winter comes (or more importantly, my mom's visit in October!)
I gardened under the unflinching stare of this little grasshopper guy.
Meryl and I ate lunch out, then did a 20 mile bike ride to Minnehaha Falls, then on the Minnehaha Parkway bike trail to the Lakes of the Isles, and back to Louderhorn Inn on the Greenway.
It was a beautiful day, and we stopped at the falls, and a few gardens along the way.
Once we got off the Greenway, and were headed back home, I found a fully intact bird nest on the ground.
Of course, I banged it up a little on the way home, but it'll still do for some project or other.
Here it is with two painted eggs (hollow, of course, thanks to Camden and his mom) and stuffed in one of my new houseplants.
When I wake up in a few hours, it'll definitely be September, and back to work for me.
I have emails to return,
and drawings to do,
But I enjoyed today immensely.
Good-bye, August.
It's sad to see you go.

Not limited to stickers....
1" buttons and 1" button magnets arrived in the mail today.
A little overkill?
Maybe.
But since all my many different pieces of fun are always free,
who cares?
I'll send some of these out to anyone that wants one or two, just email me your address.
I'll even pay the shipping.
But don't delay too long,
because I'm guessing whatever stock I have will be depleted the three days of the Minneapolis Tattoo Convention.
(September 18th-20th)
I'll also have some at the shop, of course.
Last night the temperature dropped
all the way down to 45º.
It got cold just as we were driving to St Paul to meet Ryan and Rebecca for some ice cream.
And although that wasn't perfect timing,
I'm excited for the approaching autumn.
We unpacked the comforter once we got home, and slept better than ever.
It'll be hoodie and sweater weather soon,
and now you got a shiny little decoration to complete your outfit.
As August winds down....
This weekend came with another epic "to do" list that didn't get fully completed.
I'm almost excited about summer being over so I can catch up with life.
I got in another 4.5ish hours on Meryl's never ending leg piece, bringing the total so far to 16? 17?
It was her best sit yet, no moving, no complaining; so we picked up some Soy Delicious on the way home for her.
I didn't work on the stained glass window for Dean's treehouse like I wanted to, but I did work on some house plans for it.
He liked the way they looked, but it increases his workload (and costs) tenfold from what he had planned.
But when it's done, it'll be the hottest house in Wallingford, I'm sure.
My front door is a rope ladder.

Stormy Weather
A tornado touched down in South Minneapolis yesterday, and all week the weather has been unreal.
I wish I could get a decent photograph of the sky.
This is from my drive home from work tonight, on my way to pick up Meryl and go to Ryan's birthday dinner.
I got the grinder for the stained glass in the mail today, so that will get worked on this weekend.
Dean emailed me progress photos of his treehouse today, and I'm going to send back a couple of over-achieving architectural drawings on how it might look finished.
Obviously, I'm not the one building it, so nothing is limiting me from going overboard.
ha!
Meryl's friend Molly bought a letterpress this summer, and it just so happens that she's in the market for a tattoo.
Seems like I'll be headed down to southern Minnesota to get a good look at it next week.
Between that and the stained glass, it seems I've overbooked myself again with projects I have absolutely no experience with or even a basic understanding of.
I'm finishing up the drawings for the Minneapolis Tattoo Convention that's rapidly approaching.
The buttons and magnets have been ordered.
The shop website is pretty much out of my hands now.
Things are coming together.
(even if my room looks like the tornado tore it all apart)

Back, and staying around for a while.
We're back from 10 days of lugging our crap around the East Coast.
Turns out we have really big families, and know a gazillion people.
We're thankful for everyone who came out to see us, let us stay at their houses, use their cars, and cooked us food.
Now that I'm back home, there's a lot to catching up to do.
New shirts/stickers/websites/blogs all needing finishing touches this week.
I ordered stained glass supplies online to finish the window for Dean's treehouse, mowed the lawn and pulled weeds, Meryl put the pictures of our trip up on Flickr, and we went to Seward Cafe to discuss how we're going to fit everything in before Autumn arrives.
A collaborative dead bird blog got started today as a break from email replying.
i love dead birds (.com)
It's obviously not for everybody.
But I'm happy to be back in Minneapolis,
going back to work, and waiting for our next guests
to visit us here at Louderhorn Inn.

The Mid-Trip Update.
We're about halfway through our East Coast trip.
We're in our fourth room and our third state in 6 days.
There is a checklist of things to get done and people to visit while we are out here, and we're pretty much on track.
The only major plan-changer has been the stained glass window that I wanted to make for my buddy Dean's (in-progress) treehouse.
I had plans to do it in Maryland in my parent's basement, and to deliver it to Dean once we arrived in CT.
Except, stained glass takes forever.
Even with a modified (read: much smaller) window plan, I barely got through layout and basic shape cutting while at my folk's place.
I lugged the entire mess on a bus to CT to Meryl's mom's house, where it's currently set up in her garage.
Hopefully I'll finish it before we return to MPLS, but who knows.
Here's me in my parent's basement pretending I know what I'm doing.
Another goal of the trip, but one that went way smoother than the stained glass, was trading tattoos with Lovecraft Tattoo's Laura Usowski.
She had asked me for a pickle with antlers, and I had said I would like something "dead birdish".
(not only because I have a theme going, but also because Laura took my spot at the Peabody doing bird taxidermy after I moved to MN!)
We had never met before, and only briefly discussed the plan.
I didn't bring any tattoo equipment with me, and was using all of hers.
So I was using different machines, inks, needle sizes, everything.
I ALSO got tattooed first, and had that tattoo-high thing happening, so the whole experience was pretty surreal but really fun.
Here's a picture she just emailed me (I forgot my camera!) of it mid-healing.
I'll get a healed photo later.
Thanks to Laura for the awesome tattoo and the hospitality, and to my mom and Meryl's for letting me smash glass in their houses.

I even packed a bathing suit.
I'm supposed to be packing, since it's after midnight, and we have to be at the airport at 9 am.
And we have to take a bus to the lightrail to get to the airport.
I know.
Does anyone ever get any sleep the night before traveling?
I hate flying, and airports, and checking baggage.
But I got a an extra special treat tomorrow that will make it all a lot easier, thanks to my pop's booking skills.
What could make flying any less sucky, you ask?
A nonstop flight!
No changing planes, no layovers, no having to visit the Atlanta airport for me.
Just MSP to BWI.
Nice.
I did this St. Hubert/Jägermeister/hunting/family piece for Todd's first tattoo.
We chatted about veganism and bear hunting.
Animal head mounts and human remains framed and displayed.
I think it went splendidly.
If I can get Meryl to the airport on time, we'll be on the east coat by 1:30.
One plane; one take off, one landing.
I'm so ready for this.

Recurring Images
Yup, caught working on my day off.
Again.
I had to sneak a few people in before Meryl and I leave Minneapolis for Maryland on Wednesday.
Mr Shoemaker is sprinting to being heavily tattooed, and couldn't wait till I got back from vacation to get his next one.
After about an hour on his ribs, he was wishing he had waited.
(then he sat through two more hours)
After that, and helping someone narrowly avoid a most unpleasant tattoo experience at some filthy black hole in St Paul, I came home to find another package of stickers had arrived.
I'm bringing a pile of propaganda east with me.
The mix matched band of Connecticuters* are meeting over mock duck and lo mein, and I'm sure they'll help distribute it around the surrounding states.
One day left here, and then we'll be there.
*no kidding
