A How To:*

How to Piss Off or Win Over your tattoo artist.

There's few things more infuriating than 'no call, no shows' at work,

especially when it's a full day appointment,

and I've done all the drawing for it ahead of time,

AND they confirm the day before the appointment that they are,
in fact, coming in.

It makes me go bananas.

But before I gave in to my homicidal urges,

Handsome Adam used his good hand to call Ms Broccoli Stegosaurus,

and see if she wanted to come in a few days early.

And did she?

yup.

Crisis(es) adverted.

I couldn't be any more excited about this moth-eaten hand-fan chest piece.

And now she's been added to my "favorite clients" list

for her willingness to not only get a tattoo I've been dying to do for a while,

but also to get into the tattoo chair at a moments notice.

She isn't exactly fond of her tattoo shop nickname,

(and that's usually set in stone)

but if anyone has earned the right to get a new one, it's her.

So, maybe by the time we show off the finished product,

we'll be referring to her by something else.

Something she believes suits her a little better.

We'll see.

A straight up birthday shoutout!

Maynard House's Miss Briggs got a little older today.
As far as people go, she's one of the best.
There haven't been too many people that I've met,
and immediately liked so much.
(and even fewer that liked me back!)
I hope she had an awesome day,
but knowing her girlfriend Jaime,
I'm sure it was dope.

I recently got some healed photos of her arm and chestpiece.
I have no idea why I didn't have these before,
but I have them now!
Happy Birthday Amy!
Thank you for your friendship, hospitality,
inspiration (and tax help).
xxoo.

Arrange whatever pieces come your way.

We finished (my wife) Meryl's chestpiece once we returned from our trip, and now it's all healed up.
"Some little language such as lovers use" is a line from Virginia Woolf's The Waves.
I think it took just under 6 hours total tattoo time.

Maybe someday literary tattoos will overtake band tattoos in popularity...?
Or maybe that's just a hopeful fantasy of mine,
and there will never be any end to bad cd cover art and logos being reproduced as tattoos.
Well, give me the dorky tattoos all day long.
Birds, books, and plant life,
creepy animals, lighthouses, and old things,
and I'm having a good time.

Lightning bugs.

The only way Amy and Jaime could be any more awesome
would be if their names didn't rhyme.
But oh well.
Thanks tons to them and Maynard House
for the overwhelming hospitality.
I've stayed there 4 times now,
and every time there's new house members.
But every time I'm treated like a king.

This time around,
we started working on Amy's chest piece.
We didn't finish, but after 4 hours we needed to wrap up the session.
A mason jar full of fireflies.
We need to do a lot of detail work,
and some line sculpting,
but it's a good start.

Thanks again to Off the Map Tattoo and Maynard House
for all they did for me this past week.
I look forward to coming back again soon(ish).
