I'm pretty proud to say that this week's "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday" features some amazing artwork by Graphic Artist / Designer Christopher Franchi. He's a Good Friend to the Bat-Blog and was kind enough to make us these 2 Exclusive BATMAN Wallpapers! Now of course these 2 images pay tribute to the Classic 1989 BATMAN Movie directed by Tim Burton. OK, in the 1st wallpaper we get to see Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight, Kim Basinger as Vicki Vale, and Jack Nicholson's excellent version of The Joker! The Classic '89 Batmobile Car even makes an appearance! I like how the car is kicking-up some leaves as it blazes down the road, a nice touch. I also like the scenery of Gotham City with the Bat-Signal and the AXIS Chemical Plant, both great references. All the Characters/Actors are extremely well done. I mean, you can almost smell Kim Basinger's hair gel ( Hey, it was the Eighties, ha! ).Now, the 2nd Wallpaper's main focus is just on BATMAN. Yes, This is the Michael Keaton version most all Bat-Fans totally love! he's shown here in a famous "open wings" pose and the glowing Bat-Symbol in the back is a nice touch. Side Note: Franchi is working on getting the rights to produce a variation of this image as a Limited-Edition Art Print Poster and if we get more news about that we'll pass it on. It's also important to note that he altered the original image for our Bat-Blog "Wallpaper Format" and, if the art print is offered, it will look more like the "Vertical" example shown down below.
In this "Super Power Beat Down" Video we get to see an actual Car Racing video between a 1966 Batman TV Show Batmobile and the 1989 Movie Version... and it answers the question, "Which Batmobile Car Would WIN in a Real Race?".
Our Friends over at the BATMAN CITY website are having a contest right now where you can win, not one, but three BATMAN Trading Card Sets! The Sets include: Topps BATMAN The Movie - Series 2 (1989), Topps BATMAN RETURNS (1992), and Topps BATMAN FOREVER Ultra (1995). Just to be clear, the BAT-BLOG isn't running this contest, ha! OK, These photos are total torture for me! I mean, I already know I will not be able to afford to buy this brand-new HOT TOYS '89 BATMOBILE Toy and I'm already crying myself to sleep over it, ha! This is the HUGE vehicle being made for the large "Michael Keaton BATMAN" Hot Toys Figure. It's gonna be real expensive ( Like hundreds of dollars ) but completely worth every penny as it's a beautiful, and extremely detailed, replica of the Batmobile Car from the 1989 BATMAN Movie.
It has Rubber Tires with Detailed Tread, a Cockpit that slides open, an Instrument Panel inside that's very detailed, Machine Gun Turrets that pop-out of the hood, a Special Base to display it on, etc... it even comes with a "Cocoon Shield" to cover it. OK, I'm just gonna cry for about an hour or two. I know you are so much braver than I am so please be sure to check out all the wonderful photos.
Here's an interesting video of an Interview with Robert Wuhl. Of course he was the Actor who played Ace Newspaper Reporter, Alexander Knox in the 1989 BATMAN Movie. I've always liked this guy & he was a great character in the film. Check it out!

HOT TOYS just announced that the brand-new DX-9 "1989 MICHAEL KEATON BATMAN" Movie Figure will come with a Special BAT-SIGNAL Accessory! It's sort of a plastic shield you hold-up in front of a flashlight to project the Bat-Symbol on the wall. Woooo, exciting!
A Bat-Blog Fan recently wrote in asking about a 1989 BATMAN Christmas Ornament he has in his Toy Collection and I gotta say that I'm completely stumped. First, I've never seen it before and Second, we're trying to figure out who made it. So, if any of you out there know who the manufacturer is, or where it was sold, then please let us know. It's sort of a hollow plastic "Action Figure" covered with black velvet. At first I thought it was some kind of "bootleg" item but it has an official copyright marking on the bottom of the feet, "DC COMICS ©1989". So, it was made during the early Tim Burton BATMAN Movie craze. Were there any others made too?
WOW! Now here's an extremely cool piece of Bat-History! A Loyal Bat-Blog Fan in Belgium, named Cliff, sent us this scan of a Vintage Newspaper Clipping he has kept forever! Cliff explained, "I thought you might be interested in a 1989 newspaper article which I have kept since then in my good old and battered Batman Official Movie book. According to the article, the stunning 1966 Batmobile Replica Car is the work of the (then) 27 year old Mark Perkins from Winkfield Row, UK. After having asked permission from Warner Brothers, Pekins ordered the 1973 Lincoln from the United States. Then, when it was shipped to him by… well, ship, he transformed the Lincoln into the Batmobile in seven months. The article ends by stating that the Batmobile Replica will be shown in front of London’s Warner West End Theater when the movie opens next Friday. I can’t help but wonder what has become of UK Batfan Mark Perkins and his Batmobile… I wonder if he ended up making replicas of the Furst Batmobile and the Tumbler :)"
That's a good question Cliff. Does the car still exist? If so, then where is it now? Thank you for sharing this great Batman-related Newspaper Clipping. It's so cool seeing older stuff like that. It's even cooler that it's "foreign". If any other BAT-BLOG.COM Readers out there have some interesting stuff like this then please don't hesitate to share with all of us, thanks!
This is not really a review, because I have not even seen this new product in real life yet, but it is more of an announcement of a brand-new product. This is a brand-new BBC AUDIO CD with a Radio Show of a Classic BATMAN Adventure titled "The Lazarus Syndrome". Any Bat-Fan will recognize, from the title, that this story MUST involve R'as Al Ghul. Yes, that's the main focus of the play. This show was originally created back in 1989 & this is the 1st time it's been released. One thing that's both great ( & kinda sad ) is that the "Alfred" character is voiced by Michael Gough. He was the original Actor who played that part in the early Batman films & he just recently passed away. So, it's a wonderful way to enjoy his work again. On a personal note, I have always loved his variation on Alfred so it will be cool to hear. This product is out now & if you would like more information ( plus hear a sample audio clip ) then just click HERE!
