I have some very sad news to share this morning. The Golden Age Comic Book Artist Sheldon Moldoff died last Wednesday, he was 91. In 1940 he created Hawkman for DC Comics and became a major Cover Artist for many very iconic comic books. His work was always amazing! In the 1950's he became Bob Kane's "Ghost Artist" ( with Kane, of course, taking all the credit ). He drew "Batman" from 1953 to 1967. He was responsible for creating many very iconic characters like Bat-Mite, Ace The Bat-Hound, Batwoman, and the Original Bat-Girl ( Betty Kane ). He also co-created Clayface, Poison Ivy, Dr. Achilles Milo, and Mr. Freeze.
To say that he was extremely important in "Bat-History" is no exaggeration. During his life he became a Cult Hero among Cartoonists, Animators, & other Comic Book Artists. In later life he was seen at a lot of Comic Book Conventions where he loved to meet his Fans. The artwork shown here are some of the Comicon Sketches he did. He will be missed & his contributions to both BATMAN and the Comic Book Industry are unlimited. I'm personally very sad about his passing and wish to extent my deepest condolences to his Friends and Family, "Shelly" will be missed, deeply. R.I.P. Sheldon "Shelly" Moldoff.
Long time BAT-BLOG.COM Readers know that we like to celebrate creativity here so when I saw these cool Custom Toys I knew they had to be posted! Actually, our Good Friend BATMOBILLY spotted them at the 1966 BATMAN Message Board ( Link Button always posted on the far right-hand side of this page ). Some guy named "Turkey Bowinkle" made these amazing figures inspired by his Daughter's Fisher-Price Little People Toys. But the cool thing is that all these figures are characters ( both Heroes & Villains! ) from the 1966 BATMAN TV Show! Plus, they're all done extremely well and also capture the personality of every Actor. We got: Batman, Robin The Boy Wonder, Batgirl, The Joker, The Penguin, Riddler, King Tut, Mr. Freeze, and Bookworm!
( Thanks Batmobilly and Great Job Mr. Bowinkle, Sir! )
OK, I've been meaning to publish this for awhile but I keep getting sidetracked. So, I decided this morning that I was gonna post it first thing, no matter what! The thing is, before Halloween I kept posting pictures of Batman Costumes ( 2 or 3 every day ) and then, because many people didn't have pics until after the Holiday, we got more pictures later. At one point I was kinda thinking, "Hey, I don't want people to thing that this blog is about nothing but Costumes". Ha Ha!Whoops, sorry for my long explanation. I just want our friend Nick, who sent us this GREAT Photo, to know that we didn't forget about him or didn't care about this pic. We do, it's very cool and all the Batman-inspired Costumes here are totally insane! ( Be sure to click on it for a larger, more detailed, graphic ). Nick's costume is the "Gaslight Batman". This is a very obscure version of the Dark Knight from the Classic "Batman: Gotham By Gaslight" Elseworlds Graphic Novel set in the 1880's. Nick's suit is really unique & very well done! Some of Nick's friends were there too and they all had incredible costumes! His friend Josh was Mr. Freeze, Amos was the Joker, and you can see Paul as Ra's Al Ghul! Every single one of these outfits are extremely impressive! A special thanks goes out to these guys for sharing this wonderful event, especially Nick.
Here's a quick post to share some news about a brand-new Batman Toy & it comes in 2 variations. Bat-Reporter, Batmobilly, spotted this new DC SUPER FRIENDS Fisher Price SHAKE N' GO MR FREEZE CAR ( made by Mattel ) at a Target Store & then later noticed it comes in 2 different colors. Now, I'm not one of those obsessed "Completest Collectors" who buys every variation of everything but I thought this news would be worthy as far as picking out a favorite color ( I like the lighter colored car better ). Thanks Batmobilly!

Our friend Hannah shared these wonderful pics with me the other night of her friend Paul. He lives in Australia & made this amazing MR FREEZE Costume. Of course it's the "Arnold Schwarzenegger" version from the 1997 BATMAN AND ROBIN Movie. WOW! It lights-up & everything, ha! That's impressive! Great Job Paul & Thanks Hannah. It's so cool to see Batman popular in foreign countries, I love that!

This is just a quick post to share some photos of an extremely cool MR FREEZE Costume that was made by a friend of the Bat-Blog. His name is Paul and we're totally impressed with this awesome suit/props. Of course it's the version of the character from the older TV Cartoon, "Batman, The Animated Series". The likeness is very well done. I totally love the Glass Dome Helmet & Freeze-Gun, ha!
