But, I have seen enough rock stars and professional athletes running around to know that body art tattoos are now acceptable by almost anyone (OK, so I won’t get a job in a bank with a tattoo running down my arm, but I can live with that!).

I decided to use my much-honed internet skills and searched for tattoo designs online. I came across Tattoomenow.com, which has a catalog of several thousand tattoos. They are separated into specific categories: religious, athletic, Asian, vine, barbed wire, etc. I was able to find one that I loved and I took my design down to the local tattoo parlor and made a commitment to being young again. I can’t lie to you and tell you it wasn’t painful. It was horrendous. The longest two hours of my life. I came out of it, though, with a nice piece of body art and a small piece of my youth recaptured.

I'll miss you, Philly.
I heart Philadelphia,
and all the people who made it such an awesome time this weekend.
My friends are really the best.
They drove and bused in from five states:
we tattooed our asses off,
celebrated Jaime turning 30,
ate tons of vegan food,
and got absolutely no sleep.
And running on 5 hours sleep
after tattooing for 12 hours
was certainly a lot easier
when I drank a 12 pack of Dr Pepper a day.
I shared a booth with Laura Usowski of CT's Lovecraft Tattoo,
and it went so very well.
(she ALSO did bird taxidermy for Yale's Peabody Museum,
so she's on board with loving dead birds and all that)
But she's pretty awesome at booth sharing,
and took good care of me and my poor packing skills.
I didn't really get any good photos of the tattoos I did.
So these two will have to be "teaser" shots
until better photos hopefully get emailed to me soon.
A birthday surprise vegan pride tattoo for Randon,
bought for him by his girlfriend MiMi.
No Milk, No Masters.
MiMi got her own tattoo, too.
An antlered pink flamingo named Kyle.
(named after my brother,
who bused up from University of Maryland for the weekend
to help me out and charm my friends.
he did a fantastic job in both accounts.
i mean, c'mon, he got a tattoo named after him)
On Sunday, the last day of the convention,
Northampton's Amy and Jaime joined Kyle and I on a pre-workday lighthouse hunt.
We found The Sedgeley Club,
which is a building some "lady's club" built around an 1887 lighthouse,
located on the Schuylkill River.
It's Philly's only lighthouse, of course,
and it was a beautiful morning to walk around.
SO many people came to get tattooed,
or just say hang out.
I appreciate everyone taking the time off of work,
spending money on gas and bus tickets,
hotels and convention wristbands.
Hope everyone had a good time.
Now I got to get back to Minneapolis,
cause an Albie Rock visit is only a couple days away.
Hopefully I can get everything unpacked,
straightened up, and ready to go in time.
We have some big plans for "Never Quiet, Never Soft".
Good thing I didn't lose my voice in Philly.
Tattoos Design
Tattoos are wonderful pieces of body art. But, there are a few things to keep in mind before you get your favorite design inked into your skin as a tattoo. The most important thing to keep in mind is the health risk. Because tattoos involve using a needle which breaks the skin, you can be exposed to several different complications. These include both infectious diseases and possible allergic reactions. Though in reality the chance of contracting a disease is very small in most professional parlors. This is done primarily through the exclusive use of single use needles and autoclaves, though these aren’t used much anymore. A less significant risk is that the trace metal elements in the tattoo pigments, particularly in red and green pigments, will cause an allergic reaction. I once had an allergic reaction to calcutta black. The reaction wasn’t severe but it did cause much of the ink to leak out of the tattoo. If your not sure if your allergic to a particular ink then have your artist test a small area of your skin first. If you follow these recommendations you can get the design of your dreams without any complications.
When your looking for tattoo designs or tattoo flash don’t just limit yourself to the manufactured ones that are available on the internet. There are thousands of different designs in the world with probably millions of different configurations. What you really need to focus on is finding the right design for you and that takes a little research. Of course you can start off looking for tattoos on the internet, that will provide you some great examples of what can be done. But, don’t end your research there. Take a trip to your local library and see if the have any books on tattoos. If they don’t have them then don’t fret. Take a look at their folklore or mythology section. You will often find some great ideas for tattoos. Also, it might be worth taking a look at the magazine section as well. See what tattoos the latest celebrities are sporting on the bodies. And after taking all this information in then your ready to take the next step, which is simply to wait. That’s right take some time and think about what you want to have done and where you want to have it placed. Then after you have given it some thought you can proceed with your tattoo. All these steps insure that you not only get a design that fits you but also one that you won’t regret later.
