Scapegoated

I'm hanging out in Portland, Oregon this weekend,
and it's already awesome.
This city is too easy,
and too good to vegans.
I can't ever stay long, I get spoiled quick.
I'm staying with friends at a punk/communal house,
and I'm guest spotting at the amazing Scapegoat Tattoo.
Things are good.
Busier than ever, and that's fine with me.
I did this skull and bird tattoo yesterday for seven hours straight.
Janet was basically untested
(her only other tattoo took barely an hour)
but she rocked out so hard and got the whole thing done.
I really couldn't have been more impressed.
I'm about to do a rocking chair tattoo now,
I just wanted to update the blog quick first.
More soon from Rose City.

New BATMAN BAT-SYMBOL LOGO Beach Towel at Target Stores!

NEW! For 2012!! Our Good Friend and Ace Bat-Reporter BatDave said he spotted a fun new piece of Batman Merchandise the other night while at Target, a Huge BATMAN BAT-SYMBOL LOGO BEACH TOWEL! It's the Classic Comic Book version, the "yellow oval"... sweet! It's 100% cotton, measures about 28" x 58", and has a decent Retail Price of $10.99. ( Thanks BatDave! ) Hey, keeping up with all the brand new Batman merchandise is going to be a nightmare soon so if ANY Bat-Blog Readers out there see anything fresh in stores then please let us know!

DC HEROCLIX - New Toy Figures for The Dark Knight Rises

At a recent Trade Show the HEROCLIX GAME Toy Company just announced that they will be coming out with a special Set of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Heroclix Game Figures. There will be "Over 30 to Collect". Well, actually, all the figures will be inspired from all 3 Nolan Movies: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, AND The Dark Knight Rises. Here are some prototype photos we got. Please excuse the quality but they do give you a great idea what to expect, they look kinda cool! I really like the one of Jim Gordon next to the Bat-Signal.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - 1:12 Scale Statues of Batman, Catwoman, and Bane

DC Direct just announced a set of three brand-new 1:12 scale statues to be released BEFORE "The Dark Knight Rises" Batman Movie comes out on July 20th, 2012. They're all sculpted by Artist David Cortes. Of course the 3 characters will be Batman, Catwoman, and Bane. They are all full-figure pieces with a base or small piece of Gotham City. Oh yeah, duh, the Release date will be July 4th. An easy date for some of us Americans to remember because it's Independence Day, the birth of our nation ( Is Nolan going all "political on us" in this 3rd film? ). The Retail Price will be about 80 bucks, each.

Franchi's 1989 BATMAN MOVIE TRIBUTE Wallpapers!

I'm pretty proud to say that this week's "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday" features some amazing artwork by Graphic Artist / Designer Christopher Franchi. He's a Good Friend to the Bat-Blog and was kind enough to make us these 2 Exclusive BATMAN Wallpapers! Now of course these 2 images pay tribute to the Classic 1989 BATMAN Movie directed by Tim Burton.

OK, in the 1st wallpaper we get to see Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight, Kim Basinger as Vicki Vale, and Jack Nicholson's excellent version of The Joker! The Classic '89 Batmobile Car even makes an appearance! I like how the car is kicking-up some leaves as it blazes down the road, a nice touch. I also like the scenery of Gotham City with the Bat-Signal and the AXIS Chemical Plant, both great references. All the Characters/Actors are extremely well done. I mean, you can almost smell Kim Basinger's hair gel ( Hey, it was the Eighties, ha! ).

Now, the 2nd Wallpaper's main focus is just on BATMAN. Yes, This is the Michael Keaton version most all Bat-Fans totally love! he's shown here in a famous "open wings" pose and the glowing Bat-Symbol in the back is a nice touch.

Side Note:
Franchi is working on getting the rights to produce a variation of this image as a Limited-Edition Art Print Poster and if we get more news about that we'll pass it on. It's also important to note that he altered the original image for our Bat-Blog "Wallpaper Format" and, if the art print is offered, it will look more like the "Vertical" example shown down below.

THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS - DC Comics ARTFX Statue by Kotobukiya

The Japanese Company KOTOBUKIYA has done it again! Around September, 2012 we'll get to see the latest addition to their DC Comics ARTFX Statue Series, THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS! Yes, the classic Frank Miller Graphic Novel is getting the statue treatment again and this piece looks pretty freakin' cool! It features a much-older BATMAN doing battle with the Prince of Crime, THE JOKER. The Bat-Statue stands nearly one foot tall (1/6th scale) and will come with a special display base. We mentioned this thing awhile back here at the BAT-BLOG.COM but we just got our hands on these new photos and had to share, check 'em out!

Wnter's End (kinda).

Last day of Winter, kids.
Not that you'll notice any changes out here.
It's chilly and rainy and so completely Pacific Northwesty,
and that won't be different anytime soon.
(I post some damp looking nature photos on my tumblr sometimes)
Johnny visited us this weekend,
and we checked out the House of Mystery yesterday.
The biggest mystery was why we didn't bring coats to Oregon,
since it was pretty cold, and hailing.

I did that cicada drawing for my month-long one-a-day project, Rot and a Ribbon.
It's not easy doing a new piece every day,
especially when you're tattooing all day and have visitors, too.
Wednesday I drive up to Portland for my Scapegoat guestspot,
and I have no idea where I'll find the time up there.

Anyway, here's some of the pieces I've been doing lately.
Ashley got a raven and lantern on her shoulder blade.
Sat like a rock for the whole thing,
and brought in lots of homemade vegan treats.
She's also healing it perfectly, so I'll have a good photo soon.

Johnny got an entire upper back and over the front Maiden Hair fern started.
Just to hit all the terrible spots.
Looking forward to working on this again soon.

And then we finally finished Meryl's thigh piece.
This photo is during the healing process,
but I have no patience.
More photos soon.

The guest spot out here is winding down.
I'm both bummed on leaving this amazing experience,
but also excited to get back to my house and shop in Minnesota,
and get started on a pile of fun, new projects.
I also plan on returning as much as I can without becoming unwelcome.
Happy Spring, everyone.

New BATMAN "PENCIL SKETCH" T-SHIRT Spotted at Kohl's Store

Our Good Buddy Frank came across this most excellent Batman "Pencil Sketch" T-Shirt at Kohl's the other night and was nice enough to shoot us this wonderful photo ( Thanks Frank! ). I really like the design of this thing. The "Original Comic Book Art" motif is very cool! It seems like clothing with the Dark Knight is getting very popular and being sold almost everywhere, that's great! If any other BAT-BLOG Readers out there ( that includes YOU ) spot ANY brand-new Batman Merchandise anywhere then please let us know.

Wayne's BATMAN BLACK AND WHITE STATUE Collection

We recently got an email where a Guy who lives in the UK named Wayne ( Not Bruce Wayne ) and he sent us some photos of his BATMAN BLACK AND WHITE STATUE Collection...AWESOME! He said he has every statue made since they began. If I remember right, there are 41 of them so far, maybe 42. I really like these and it's great to see them all together. There's such a nice variety. ( Hey Wayne - Thanks for sharing your fun pics! ).

New Discovery on the Origin of the Very 1st Batmobile Car!

OK, This is a fun post. For many years now many Comic Book Historians have believed that the very first "Batmobile Car", which appeared in Detective Comics #48 in 1941 ( drawn by Bob Kane ), was based on a Cord. But now, a Writer for the "Cars In Depth" website named Ronnie Schreiber has discovered what he thinks to be the original inspiration, a 1938 Graham Paige “Sharknose”! Now, I don't know much about Old Cars, but Ronnie's argument seems pretty valid. For more details be sure to read his article by clicking HERE!

BATMAN CAR Spotted at Wal-Mart in Lynchburg, VA!

OK, This is pretty funny! A Friend of the Bat-Blog, Bobby, recently came across a fun BATMAN Car while shopping at a Wal-Mart in Lynchburg, Virginia. He just had to get this fun photo! Oh yeah, there it was, right there in the parking lot!! The car isn't totally customized or anything, It's just black with a HUGE Bat-Symbol Logo on the hood. But, still pretty cool. Thanks Bobby!

Hal's Custom BATMAN BAT-CYCLE Harley-Davidson Motorcycle!

Check out these awesome photos of a really great "Bat-Cycle"! This is a 1988 Harley Davidson FLHTP owned by our friend Hal. Originally, it was an old Police Bike that used to be in service in New Jersey. Hal removed all the Police-related items off of it and customized it a little bit with some fresh paint and Batman Bat-emblems. I really like that he kept the design sort of minimal. I mean, he didn't over-do it and that's important because with some "Bat-Vehicles" a lot of People just go totally crazy, ha! Now, don't get me wrong though, "extreme" can be cool too, but I really love this Bat-Bike. Good Job Hal, and Thanks for sharing these fun pics.

BATMAN EXTREME!! A New Batman Toy Collector Blog!

One tip, at the bottom of all his posts there is a "Pagination Area" where you click the numbers "2, 3, 4, etc..." Just click those and you can enjoy the whole site. There is some neat stuff like Tin Toys ( Robots and Batmobile cars ). Plus, a lot of new merchandise. It looks like he might focus on "THE DARK KNIGHT RISES" Movie Action Figures a little bit too. It's fun, just click HERE!
