NSFW (if you got a sucky job)

Jill is a champ.

She took a last minute opening on Thursday

(announced on my Facebook page)

and got this pelvic snail and mushroom scene started.

And then, the VERY NEXT DAY,

I had another cancelation,

and she came back in for some coloring.

I think that's awesome.

I don't think I'd ever do it,

but I applaud her badassery.

For real.

(but then again,

I know some of her friends,

so I'm not that surprised)

I can't wait to finish it,

I almost hope I get no-showed tomorrow.

The mushroom on the left is a scarred star cover-up,

as well as incorporating a birthmark

Somewhere in between snail sessions,

I did this skull and flowers tattoo on a forearm.

After work, I've been heading to MCBA

(Minnesota Center for Book Arts)

to help Meryl with her big art book project.

(Molly has been documenting some of it here and here)

Long days, kids.

It's 2:30am right now,

and we just finished making a plaster cast of her shoulder.

I have to go to work tomorrow,

then back to MCBA.

Do you believe in ghosts?

Sometime after 1am yesterday,

while we were the only people in the building,

we scared ourselves silly.

(tonight all I saw was an ugly little mouse)

But really.

Haunted basements?

The Soapfactory has nothing on MCBA.

If you want to get your Halloween on,

I know Meryl could use some night helpers.

Flower tattoos are one such design, where there is no dearth for patterns and creativity. As endless varieties of flowers are known to man, there are more chances of getting a unique flower tattoo design. Apart from that, several flowers have significant meanings associated with them. For e.g., aster stands for patience, carnation for pride, daffodil for chivalry, daisy for innocence, rose for love, etc.

Flower tattoos can be mixed with other designs like butterfly or vine tattoos to create a more beautiful and attractive tattoo.

Flower Tattoos

As with the real thing, flower tattoos are both beautiful and symbolic of many things. A lily alone, for example, means different things in different cultures. For some it is a symbol for purity and for others can represent erotic love.

For Asian cultures, the heavily symbolic lotus flower brings good luck, tranquility and rebirth. Whatever flower you choose to represent on your skin, whether alone or in a bouquet, can make a profound statement about what you identify with.

You even can express entire messages with flower arrangements. If you would like to promise to be faithful to your first love, this can be represented by a lilac surrounded with ivy. Those that view themselves as brave and lucky, or perhaps want to be, can link a chain of delphinium and stephanotis as an armband.

Bird tattoo designs have taken precedence over all other forms and types of tattoo designs universally. Across time, space and cultures, the bird has stood as a symbol of freedom, of spirit, of soul, of beauty. Flying high in the blue skies, birds are said to be closer to the gods and the heavens, and in many cultures, are viewed as creatures that carry the spirits of the departed to the heavens above.

In the days of old, heroes were always accompanied by birds as they went in pursuit of fiends, ogres, dragons and monsters. In most tales of yore, the birds would fly ahead to spy and return to inform the hero of looming obstacles, thus bringing about the famous phrase, 'a little bird told me'!

Bird tattoos are also very popular due to their connection with religion as well as the mystical. Birds can be found in every era of history; stick figurines of birds have been discovered in the ancient Egyptian tombs in the pyramids, bedecking Arapaho Ghost Dance costumes, at African traditional rituals and weddings across all religions. Christian portrayals of cherubs and angels show them having wings, which are synonymous with birds. In almost all instances, birds are symbols of all the positive things in life, which is why many people tend to go for bird tattoo designs, especially for their first tattoos.

Generally, a bird tattoo design will consist of a pair of birds, depicted together. They tend to be opposites in characteristics; fair to dark, black to white, big to small. This merely shows the dual nature of the universe; where sadness exists, so does happiness. Where night exists, so does day. In other cases, good and evil are also portrayed by birds, for example, when we have a bird tattoo design of a bird fighting a serpent.

Decidedly, there are some implications to birds that are not completely normal. In China, the bird is called the niao, which also means penis, thereby bringing in sexual overtones into bird tattoos. Also, the double meaning of a cock as either a rooster or a penis dates back to eras past in the Rome of old. Some portrayals of birds are quite negative in impact. In Germany, to be insane can be put politely as to 'have a bird'! 'Bird-brain' is also one of the most famous insults in the Western World, although most people do not associate these negative impressions with bird tattoo designs
